ABOUT JODHPUR (SUNCITY or BLUECITY)

 

The second largest city of Rajasthan, Jodhpur was founded by Rao Jodha in the year 1459.

Jodhpur is a famous tourist destination for its rich cultural and architectural heritage, which includes a variety of forts, temples, palaces, lakes and towers set in the beautiful landscape of Thar Desert.

Jodhpur is also known as Suncity and Bluecity popularly. The city is also believed to be the cultural capital of Rajasthan state.

Initially circling the fort bounded by a wall with several gates, the old city gradually extend far into all directions over the last decade.

Jodhpur’s most notable tourist destinations are: Mehrangarh Fort, Jaswant Thada, Umaid Bhawan Palace, Ghantaghar, Mandore Garden ruins, Balsamanad Lake, Kaylana Lake, Ranisar Padamsar, Veer Durgadas Temple, Sardar Samand Lake and palace, Bhim Bhadak Caves, Ratanada Ganesh Temple, Mandalnath, Siddhanath, Bhutnath-Jagannath, Machiya Biological Park, Rao Jodha Desert Park, Railway Station, etc.

These historic building and locations have been featured in a lot of movies, both Hollywood and Bollywood.

Above all, these palaces are loved by celebs of film industries and have been a favorite spot for several celebs as a marriage location.

There are various parks and gardens everywhere in the city, and temples around every street corner. The buildings inside the old city area are whitewashed in blue colour, hence giving it its popular name.

 

Cuisine:

Marwari or Rajasthani cuisine is famous all around the world. A number of dishes from Indian cuisine originated in Jodhpur, such as Makhaniya Lassi, Mawa Ki Kachori, Pyaaj Ki Kachori (kachori of onion), Hot & Spicy Mirchi Bada, Dal Bati Churma, Lasan Ki Chutney (special gravy of garlic), Mirchi Ka Kutii, Gatte Ki Sabzi, Ker Sangri Sabzi, Raab, Lapsi, Aate Ka Halwa, Kachara Mircha Sabzi and Kadhi Pakoda with Baajre Ka Sogra. Jodhpur is known for its sweets ranging from traditional "Makhanbada", "Mawa Ki Kachori", "Malpua", "Ghevar", "Motichur Ke Laddu", "Besan barfi", "Thorr" and "Gulab Jamun" to Bengali "Rasgulla" and "Ras Malai". There are other variety of items cooked in traditional ways prepared in Jodhpur.

 

Fairs and Festivals:

A lot of cultural and folk festivals happening in the area are: Marwar Mahotsav, Gangaur, Baithmaar, Gangaur Mela, Teej, Nag Panchami Fair, Sheetla Mata Fair, Baba Ramdev Pir Mela, Rajasthan, International Folk Festival (RIFF), World Sacred Spirit Festival, etc.

 

Education Hubs:
